In Detail: 3D Puff Print (with Pics)

3D Puff is a retro fun printing technique and it's now available on the NeatoPOD!

This heat transfer vinyl (HTV) based printing technique lets you create one-color, simple text and graphic art that expands or "puffs up" into a raised or three-dimensional effect on the tee. It is compatible with a wide range of garments.

3D Puff Graphic Requirements - IMPORTANT

Like any printing technique 3D Puff has its requirements. When designing for this printing method, please keep the following requirements in mind:

  • One color design
All of the design will be printed with a single color of your choice. The color you use in the design doesn't really matter (you can use black) as it will be replaced with the 3D Puff color. We do not have multiple colors for 3D Puff.

  • Simple text with thick and rounded font
Please limit the text to just one to a few words when designing for 3D Puff. The words should be large in size and uses thick/fat/bold and rounded fonts.

  • Simple graphic without intricate details or sharp corners
When puffed, intricate details will not show up so avoid them in the design process. Sharp corners do not last as long in the wash, so avoid these as well. Do not design the graphics with a lot of voids/small holes or fine lines. 3D Puff cannot print semi-transparencies such as fades, drop shadows or glows.

  • Avoid extremely large graphic elements
A single large field of puff often doesn't "puff up" properly, so avoid extremely large graphic elements.

  • Save in vector (.svg) format
The text/graphic for 3D Puff has to be created and saved in vector format (.svg).

This is important: we cannot print bitmap art (such as photographs or cliparts), even if you save them in .svg format. The art has to be natively created as vector art. You can use Adobe Illustrator or Canva to create vector art.

Washing Requirement for 3D Puff

3D Puff print is a bit delicate, so garments should be hand washed with mild detergent only (such as Woolite), then hung to dry. Do not use washing machine or dryer, as both can damage the print.
